The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 Yet, when they see a sign they [who deny the truth] turn their backs and say, "The same old sorcery!" 2 And they call (it) a lie, and follow their low desires; and every affair has its appointed term. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
