The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And when they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Just a customary magic!” 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 which floated on the water before Our very eyes. The flood was a recompense for the deeds of the disbelievers. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 Aad too belied. How then were My punishment and My warnings! 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 Smashing down men as if they were uprooted trunks of date palms. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
