The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Consummate wisdom-- but warnings do not avail; 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 We have left this as a sign: but will anyone take heed? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed? 22
