The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ The Merciful 1 Hath made known the Qur'an. 2 He created man. 3 He hath taught him utterance. 4 The sun and moon rotate in a predestined orbit. 5 And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration. 6 He raised the heavens and set up the measure, 7 (Transgress not in the Balance, 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And the earth has He spread out for all living beings, 10 Therein are fruit and palm-trees with their dates in sheaths, 11 and grains with their husk and fragrant plants. 12 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord, will ye twain belie? 13 He has created man from dry, rotten clay like the potter's, 14 And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. 15 Which, then, of your Sustainer's powers can you disavow? 16 (He is) the Lord of the two easts (places of sunrise during early summer and early winter) and the Lord of the two wests (places of sunset during early summer and early winter). 17 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 18 He let forth the two seas that meet together, 19 Between them is a barrier [so] neither of them transgresses. 20 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 21 There come forth from them pearls, both large and small. 22 How many favours of your Lord will you then deny? 23 His too are the ships that run, raised up in the sea like land-marks. 24 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 25
