The All Compassionate (Al-Rahman)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ The Beneficent 1 has taught the Koran. 2 has created man, 3 And taught him to express clearly. 4 [At His behest] the sun and the moon run their appointed courses; 5 And the stars and trees prostrate. 6 And the sky He hath uplifted; and He hath set the measure, 7 In order that you may not corrupt the balance. 8 But observe the measure strictly, nor fall short thereof. 9 And He has set up the earth for all beings. 10 There exists all kinds of fruits, palm-trees with sheathed blossoms, 11 And grain covered with husk, and fragrant flowers. 12 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? 13 He created man from clay like that of earthenware. 14 and He created the jinn of a smokeless fire. 15 Which of the wonders of your Lord's power will you twain – you men and jinn – then deny? 16 Lord of the Two Easts, Lord of the Two Wests, 17 Which, then, of the benefits of your Lord will ye twain belie? 18 He has given freedom to the two great bodies of water, so that they might meet: 19 and between them is a barrier which they do not overpass. 20 How many favours of your Lord will then both of you deny? -- 21 There come forth from the twain the pearl and the coral. 22 So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? 23 His too are the ships that run, raised up in the sea like land-marks. 24 Then which of the Blessings of your Lord will you both (jinns and men) deny? 25
