The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a host of the ancients 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruits abounding 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
