The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 and shade extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
