The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those on the right hand; 38
