The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 And water everflowing. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
