The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
