A company of the former peoples 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 And verily ye know the first creation. Why, then, do ye not reflect? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
