Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A large group from the earlier generations. 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
