In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
