The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise, and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
