The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
