The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then looked he, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
