The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
