The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
