Nay, and by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to mortal man 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 From the guilty. 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 until there came to us the certainty. 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
