I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And the dawn when it shineth forth, 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 A warning unto him of you who shall go forward or who chooseth to lag behind. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 about the guilty ones: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will answer: "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 “And used to dwell on evil matters with those who think evilly.” 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 and whoever wills may take it to heart. 55 And they will not mind unless Allah please. He is worthy to be feared and worthy to forgive. 56
