Nay, by the Moon 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 A warning for people -- 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They will answer: "We did not fulfil our devotional obligations, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Till the Inevitable came unto us. 47 So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them. (The disbelievers will not have any intercessor.) 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
