Nay, by the Moon 32 By the night when it departs. 33 and the dawn when it is white, 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 except those of the right hand 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 About the guilty: 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we have been belying the Day of Requital. 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As though they were asses startled. 50 running away from a lion? 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
