The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Verily We created man from a sperm yoked (to the ovum) to bring out his real substance, then gave him hearing and sight. 2 Surely We have shown him the way: he may be thankful or unthankful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 They will be served with silver dishes and crystal clear goblets. 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths will go about them, when you see them, you would suppose them to be scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance. 22
