The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day when the sky will become as molten copper, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and who stand in dread of their Sustainer's chastisement 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
