In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another. 1 And the winds that blow violently 2 By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive; 3 And by the Verses (of the Quran) that separate the right from the wrong. 4 And those that bring down the Reminder 5 To end all argument or to warn. 6 BEHOLD, all that you are told to expect will surely come to pass. 7 When the stars lose their light, 8 When the heaven is cleft asunder; 9 When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust; 10 And when the messengers' time has come... 11 For what Day was it postponed? 12 To the Day of Decision. 13 And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! - 14 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 15 Did We not destroy the former generations? 16 Then caused the latter folk to follow after? 17 This is how We deal with the guilty. 18 Woe on that Day to those who reject the truth! 19 Did We not create you from a worthless water (semen, etc.)? 20 The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed, 21 For a known period (determined by gestation)? 22 Thus We have determined the stages of development and Our power to determine is excellent indeed. 23 On that day, woe would be upon those who have rejected the revelations of God! 24 Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together. 25 the living and the dead? 26 And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein? 27 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 28 'Depart unto that which ye were wont to belie. 29 "Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns, 30 which neither gives shade nor protects one from the flames. 31 It will throw out sparks as logs of wood 32 like giant fiery ropes! 33 Alas the woe that day for those who deny! 34 that Day on which they will not [be able to] utter a word, 35 nor be allowed to proffer excuses! 36 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 37 That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)! 38 So if you have a plan, then plan against Me. 39 The Day of Judgement. 40
