The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 except boiling water and pus, 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
