He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you ignore him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
