He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
