He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out, as during the night of Holy Prophet's ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
