He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted and holy, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
