He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And he feareth 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
