He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
