He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 You neglect. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruits and herbage 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
