He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We send down abundant water, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
