He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
