He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
