He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 You pay full attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
