He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And hath fear, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
