He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and in awe of God 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
