He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
