He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
