He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And he feareth 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
