He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And he fears, 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
