He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
