He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
