He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And he fears, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruit and grass - 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
