He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
