He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay him no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
