He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
