The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun shall be darkened, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains are removed 3 And when full-term she-camels are neglected 4 When the wild beasts are herded together (in the human habitations); 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 When souls are reunited (with the bodies) 7 and when the female infant buried alive is asked 8 For what crime she was put to death; 9 When the scrolls are laid open; 10 The curtain drawn back from the skies, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 when Paradise shall be brought nigh, 13 Then every soul shall know that which it hath presented. 14 No indeed; I swear by the alternating stars 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by the dawn when it breathes 18 behold, this [divine writ] is indeed the [inspired] word of a noble apostle, 19 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 He is not avid of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of the cursed Shaitan, 25 Where then will you go? 26 This is merely a reminder to all mankind; 27 To whomsoever among you who wills to walk straight, 28 but your wishing will not avail unless Allah, the Lord of the Universe, so wishes. 29
