The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
WHEN THE SUN is shrouded in darkness, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 and the mountains have been taken, 3 When the she-camels, ten months with young, are left untended; 4 And when wild animals are herded together. 5 When the oceans surge and swell, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 and when heaven is laid bare, 11 And when hell is lighted, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 [then] each soul shall know what it has put forward. 14 Rather, I swear by the returning 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 and the first breath of morning. 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 [Who is] possessed of power and with the Owner of the Throne, secure [in position], 20 obeyed, and honest. 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 Assuredly he beheld him in the horizon manifest. 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 And the Qur'an is not the word of a devil, expelled [from the heavens]. 25 So where are you going? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 for whosoever of you who would go straight; 28 but you shall not, unless Allah wills, the Lord of all the Worlds. 29
